Hi all not a lot to report this week as half the club were away on holidays or out partying, half your luck, still 18 players managed to show up in difficult playing conditions, it cold very windy and the greens are bumpier than ever.
Congratulations to Steve McKenna over coming the conditions on the back nine to score 36 points enough to win the day and three golf balls, unfortunately i had to leave as soon as i finished playing so i have no grade winners, but i am sure they know who they are.
this Saturday is the life members trophy a 2 ball better ball comp, so pick your playing partner the rules are very simple:
1. it is a stroke round
2. combine both handicaps then divide by two ( eg: 17 + 22 = 39 / 2 = 19.5 handicap )
3. both player tee off the best is chosen the players drive chosen cannot hit the next shot his playing partner must hit it.
4. you must hit in an alternative order until the ball is in the hole, meaning you can never have two hits in a row.
5. you can use your drive every time if it is the best shot out of the two.
reminder:
Sunday August 13th 10am tee off 9.15am putting comp at the Vines golf course.
cheers
see ya Saturday |

It was the MSGC team ambrose day, with 4 teams of four and 3 teams of three the seen was set with only a few simple rules, one drive each had to be used by each playing member on the front and back 9 holes, maintain the same tee off order from start to finish and most importantly enjoy the day. The feedback i was receiving at the end of the day was nothing but how everyone really enjoyed playing the 4 person team ambrose which is what coming out on a Saturday to play golf is all about, when we plan next years program we may have to discuss having two in a calendar year.
Ok as always we set out with every intention to win the day but only one can, well in this case only one team. With a winning total nett score of of 55.6 was team "ROBBO" consisting of Robbo, Liz, Hayden and Graham Hunt, well played i hear it from good authority that Robbo went missing in action, Liz played her part, Hunty sunk a few long putts and Hayden ( Will ) Coleman did a stellar job supporting the team when the pressure was on, well done guys taking home the $70 prize pool.
2nd place was team "CHOKERS" consisting of Jarrod, Joffa, DC5 and Paul Johnson with a nett score of 56 close but no cigar!!
3rd place was team "EASY-BEATS" consisting of Tom "easybeat" Dougan, Klaus, Rick and Penny with a nett score of 56.1
4th place was team "RAINBOW WARRIORS" consisting of the very colorful Lindsay, Mark Mc. and Lucas with a nett score of 58.6
5th place was team "SUPER" consisting of Graham "Superman" Manny, Franky, Steve Belcher and Phil with a nett score of 58.75
6th place was team "ALL THE PRESIDENTS MEN" consisting of Kymbo, Mike "the Champ" Taylor and Big Kev with a nett score of 60.34
Coming in last place but by no means least was team "HIPSTERS" consisting of David "love my bionic hip" Kempy, Steve Mc and Paul Mc. with a nett score of 64
Regardless of what teams scored or position they came in, the day was the clear winner again with everyone having a great time.
** there has been another change to the playing program**
The scheduled Joffa Gould sponsored day 22nd July next Saturday will be rescheduled for another day. in it's place will be the MSGC stableford day
reminders: The 4th away game is on Sunday 13th August at the Vines golf club tee off 10am putting comp 9.15am
see you all next Saturday
cheers

With the prediction of 90% rain for Saturday and a temperature of around 15 degrees it was probably enough information to keep a few regulars away, but in saying that 23 players braved the conditions regardless of what was install for us. Thankfully the rain stayed away, the chill factor hung around all day, not that one particular golfer noticed has he kept himself warm by producing a hot round of golf. winning the Horndale winery stableford event was Peter (Sara) O'Connor with a very nice 40points, well done Sara it was a pleasure playing the round with you.the grade winners were "A" grade Klaus with 37 points, "B" grade Peter Rowe 37 points, "C"grade Graham Hunt 36 points, well done guys, no ladies braved the elements on Saturday, more Port give aways for the winners :). A special mention to Ben Mundy one of our new members and a good lad playing in "A"grade came in with 11 points and with a smile on his face, some days it is what it is, we all have them but move on ready for the next week, love your work Ben maybe next will be your day :).
All those winners that stayed till the end received their bottles of port kindly donated and sponsored by Phil from Horndale Winery, many thanks Phil, i unfortunately did not win a bottle but know first hand what a fine drop of port it is.
Reminders:
1. Get your foursome together for the ambrose day on Saturday 15th and there will be no early starts , only 3 rules will apply: rule 1 : every team member must use one of their drives on the front 9 and one drive on the back 9. rule 2 : the order you start in will be the order you use and finish in. rule 3 : have fun
2. 4th away game is at the Vines Sunday 13th August 10am tee off be early to secure your cart, first in best dressed.
3. if anyone wishes to share some news on our website just let me know.
cheers everyone, see you on Saturday

Into July already and another good turnout to play for the July Monthly medal sponsored by Geoff and Jackie ( Belair Country club). It is starting to become a habit now for Phils name to be mentioned in every news letter, yes you guessed it was Phil Edwards winning with a Nett 64 and 42 stableford points well done yet again Phil i am thinking at this rate you will be in "B" grade very soon. the other winners for the day were "A" grade Steve Belcher with a nett 68, "B" grade Robbo with a nett 66, "C" grade M. McKenna with a nett 75 and Ladies grade Liz DeKonning with a nett 77 well done to those winners.
Congratulation to Conrad Peters on winning the very nice Wilson Staff Putter valued at around $150, this putter was donated by a club member who wishes to remain anonymous, so on behalf of all the club members i would like to say a big thank you for your generosity, the club raised $125 :)
Reminders:
1. Horndale cup this Saturday ( stableford round) and Phil the owner may show up in the afternoon to hand out the prizes ( bottles of port and wine) so if you can stay back in case Phil does show it would be very much appreciated especially if you think you are in the mix to win something.

Hi everyone last Saturday morning we were playing for the past members memorial trophy, one of the very special trophies to win. A good number rolled up yet again to be part of the comp and the minute silence before tee off as Tony read out each and every past member it gave us time to reflect and admire what our past but never forgotten members did for the club, without those guys setting the strong foundation on what this club is built on and all about and passing those attributes onto us there would not be a M.S.G.C. we will always thank them as we remember them for there outstanding contributions to the club, job well done boys.
As always at the end of the day there can only be one winner and picking up the cigar was Phil Edwards with a very handy nett 65 well done Phil you got yourself a nice trophy there, in second place with a very nice nett 66 was Graham ( grumpy) Simmons and in third on a 3 way count back was Tony Bryant and Liz DeKonning for winning the ladies grade with a nett76, well done to all those players.
Reminders:
1. Belair green fees are now due $890.00
2. Away game 4 is on August 13th 10am tee off 9.15am putting comp at the Vines

For all the members that ventured out on Saturday to play for not one but two competitions, were greeted by what looked like snow covered mountains on the 18th green.
The air was crisp but the sun was shining warming everyone up. 26 players stood up to battle it out for the June monthly medal and the presidents cup, as always there can only be one winner and the player making most of the glorious conditions was Paul McKenna having a 66 nett and 41 stableford points taking out the double. Well done and well played Paul, you can relax now, with a major under the belt and a monthly medal it's time to give us also rans a chance!!
Coming in second spot on a count back, can you believe it maybe next year, was Peter Rowe and in third place with a nett 68 was Steve Belcher, well played boys.
Due to the June long weekend the comp will be a stableford comp sponsored by the club.
Reminders:
1. there are still club shirts and hats that have been ordered and not payed for if that can be resolved asap it would be appreciated
2. Winter is here and we still have club umbrellas available $40
3. Saturday June 17th can all committee members be at the club by 7am because Chris the course super will give a 30min presentation on what his future plans are for the golf course, one not to miss and Geoff may put on bacon and egg sandwiches for us
4. Tony is taking the time to put some very useful golfing tips on the website, so do yourself a favor and check it out, it may help you win the next comp.
5. If anyone has any news they would like to share with the club please feel free to pass it on to me and will put in the news letter
cheers

Saturday morning 27th May a smaller than average but respectable group rolled up to play golf as per normal,a stableford round playing for golf balls, except for two players. For those two players , Robbo and Graham Hunt it was grand final day to decide the new RMT Bryant match play champion. Both players had to stand tall and be victorious over four previous rounds to reach the grand final play off, a fantastic effort in its self considering the caliber of players they had to beat along the way.
I had the pleasure of refereeing and watching the match unfold. It goes without saying that Robbo and Graham played the game in a friendly but competitive manner from start to finish. From the 1st hole to 17th hole the lead changed many time, never exceeding one up. On the 17th hole Robbo produced a cracking 7 iron shot which landed his ball 2 meters from the pin for a realistic birdie opportunity, Graham had three great shots to land just short of the dance floor, Graham within putting distance took three to sink his ball giving him a very respectable 6 which most of us would take any day of the week. It was Robbo who had 2 putts to win the hole and go one up, which he managed to do.
Hearts pumping both players stepped up on the 18th tee block knowing what each other had to do and in true championship style they both got their drives away to set themselves up for another nail biting finish, Robbo with the advantage of just having to draw the hole to become champion and Graham having to produce something extra special to take the game up the 1st hole again. In the end it was Robbo winning the 18th to go 2 up in what was an epic battle and worthy final.
Congratulations Robbo the newly crowned RMT Bryant match play champion for 2017 and commiserations to Graham, you can be very proud for holding your nerve to help produce a classic final which went down to the wire.
Reminders: This Saturday is the June monthly medal ( stroke ) and the Presidents cup ( stableford ) round. so if your stroke round is falling apart you may still have a great stableford round going so don't disqualify yourself or walk off.
see you all on Saturday
cheers

Hi everyone not a lot of news this week, but i must congratulate DC5 (David Clarke) for coming up with the 3 club challenge concept and sponsoring it as well. It is a great fun day were you can try a different approach to how you would normally play a hole and have fun doing it. I also like when it comes to club selection time, it doesn't take much think time.
At the end of the day one player managed to master the 3 clubs he chose, obviously knowing his own game very well he chose wisely coming in with a very impressive 38 points well done Phil Edwards, maybe you have found the secret to having a successful round of golf, and well done to everyone else who went out, played and had lots of fun.
For those that may not have known the round was not handicapped.
***Special note***
The presidents cup was to be played on June 10th which is a long weekend and many of us will be away including the president, so on Saturday the 3rd June there will be two comps played - the June Monthly medal which is stroke play and the Presidents cup which is stableford play. So even if you are having a bad stroke hole don't DQ has you still may be in the running to win the Presidents cup. I will mention it on the tee block Saturday.
Reminders:
1. The third away game is at Mt. Osmond - Sunday the 28th May 11.30am tee off and the putting comp at 10.15am
2. Club hats, shirts and umbrellas are available
ps. buckle up Mildura, we are coming.
cheers

Hi everyone yes the news is back after a technical difficulty, my brain stopped working :). Well the 8 quarter finalists marched out onto the course last week knowing that only 4 will return the victors. Firstly congrats to all that made the quarter finals, a great effort right there. The winner of the quarter final round were Robbo defeated DC5, Graham Hunt defeated Steve Mc, Tom the Buzz Dougan defeated Whitey and Frankie defeater Penny.
The Semi finals are to be played on the 20th May and the pairings are Robbo V's Tommy ( try to block out what happened last time you played Robbo in the Bryant cup semi bet you can't Tom hahaha) and Hunty V's Frankie., best of luck to you all.
The second away game was played out at Echunga golf course and it was in great condition, a pleasure to play on and the weather was cool but nice. A great turnout 24 players in total came to battle it out for top spot. Before we all teed off we held the traditional putting comp and congratulations to Hayden Coleman winning $55 not a bad way to start the day considering he lent the $5 entry fee off Whitey, hope you got a bit of interest back from your $5 Whitey.
Winning the day was Jarrod Rowland with 37 points runners up were DC5 and Hayden with 36 points, and Penny winning the ladies grade with 34 points well done to those winners, taking home bottles of Red wine kindly donated by Paul Murray, and golf balls.

There will be another lottery held in September and drawn in December, a bit of much needed cash for those xmas presents hey. A big thank you to Graham Hunt who had the task of controlling the ticket book handouts, the returns and money collected, as job very well done Graham, come September it will flow natural for you lol. Thank you to all our club members that sold and or bought tickets to make this fund raiser for the club a huge success.
Last but by no means least, Congratulations to Steve Belcher winning the May monthly medal with a nett 67 , runner up to Steve was Big Kev with a nett 68 and in third place was Whitey with a nett 69.
