Hi everyone, well Ashbourne has come and gone and what a great day it was for all who attended, the wind was strong but didn't spoil the family atmosphere. Well done to Penny taking out the overall winners trophy with an exceptional score of 22 points in reasonably difficult conditions at times. Congratulations to all the grade winners, kids and visiting winners, which leaves only one prize remaining the NAGA award and that honour goes to Mr. David Kemp who could only manage 9 points better luck next year Kempy, there were a few not far behind you though me included. Many thanks go to: Rob Dale who has sponsored the day for many many years and does a fabulous job on the BBQ, to Lucas Macann for donating all the meat and bacon, Liz and Penny for the wonderful salads and desert, to all the committee members Robbo, DC5, Hunty, Big Kev, Bulmers, for all the behind the scenes organisation and BBQ assistance, for without all these wonderful helpers the day just would not happen, a job well done.
Next year Ashbourne will once again be held on the last Sunday in October, already looking forward to seeing everyone there.
On Sunday 12th of November is our last away game for 2017 at Links Lady bay tee off commencing at 10am, putting comp 9.15am. come up Saturday afternoon and spend the night if you can, would be nice to have a group of us there for dinner and a few drinks, did i say a few drinks....well you know what i mean!!!
Just for interest sake the current standings for the away games played are as follows:
current leader on 145 points is Steve McKenna
2nd place on 137 points is Graham Hunt
3rd place on 133 points is Jarrod Rowland
4th place on 132 points is Mike Taylor
with one round being washed out it will be the highest point scorer over 4 rounds so any of the top four leaders can still win overall after dropping their lowest score.
cheers
see ya Saturday

Hi everyone, well week two of the club championship qualifying rounds was played out on Saturday and as i said on the tee block with any two week comp it is an open book for anyone to come home super strong and either win it or improve there standing from week one. That is what happened in some cases but before i go one further about that, it was very pleasing to Tony "i normally choke in week two"Bryant not choke and win the David Kemp sponsored Driver, well done and well deserved Tony.
Congratulation to Kempy for winning week two with a fantastic nett 64 well done, hope you haven't peeked too soon :)
The club championship semi finals will be played on November 11th and all players must play though the tee on the day NO EARLY STARTS for the players who are in the play offs
the pairing are as follows: "A"grade 1.Tom Dougan V's Klaus Ebdrup 2. Steve Belcher V's Tony Bryant
"B"grade 1. David Kemp V's Kym Tolius 2. Frank Balter V's Mike Taylor
"C"grade 1. Steve McKenna V's tba 2.DC5 V's Phil Edwards
"Ladies"grade 1. Penny Pearce V's Liz DeKonning
I wish all those players making the semi finals all the very best and i hope the round is played in the true spirit of our club "Have fun and Enjoy the day"
This Saturday is the Jacqui Rowland Basket press trophy , another very special trophy not only to win but just to be part of, so hope to see a big turnout yet again on Saturday
REMINDERS:

Hi everyone great to see a big turnout for the start of the club championships, at last count i believe there were 32 out to contest this years start of the qualifying rounds which is very kindly sponsored by David Kemp, thank you Kempy for your ongoing support for the club.
Weather wise the day was setup for some good scoring and the good scores rolled in, but none better than our captian Tony Bulmers Bryant with a great 42 points well done Tony, don't choke in the second round, hahaha i am sure you won't, well maybe you won't, well lets hope you don't, well would i put money on you not choking probably not!!!
in second place on a count back with 42 points having an absolutely cracking round was yours truly :), in third place with 40 points was Paul Johnson, well done to those guys. But being a two week comp it is very much an open book for everyone to still win the David Kemp Driver.
Reminders:
1. Ashbourne family day is on Sunday the 29th October 8am breaky appprox 9am tee off start.
2. lots of loot lottery tickets to be in by mid November
3. Presentation night is Saturday 17th Feb 2018 6.30pm start

Hi all, finally back on the air YEAH!!! ok so what has been happening over the past few weeks, well lets start with the winners circle, the SAGE trophy day was a big success sharing a snag or two with Paul Johnson and the Sage crew at the end of the day. As always there can only be one winner and coming in with a very healthy 41 points was Penny Pearce, you go girl, great round. Grand final Saturday saw a dozen players come to play, clearly their footy teams never made it into the last Saturday in September ( congrats to Richmond on a historic win, hope the next win isn't 37 years away ). as a playing group they all chipped in $5 each with the winner on the day taking all and the lucky winner was David Kemp bagging $65 well done Kempy, maybe the Cats can be there next year. The October monthly medal was played on Saturday with some great scores coming in, Ron Jaekel would have been very confident with a very nice nett 65 until Franky came in with an even nicer nett 64 well played boys and then then party pooper for both rolled in with a nett 64 as well and after a count back decision was reached, yours truly won the day sorry guys ( not really) my first win for 2017 so i was very happy to say the least.
This is the business end of the season with club championship qualifying starting this Saturday and continuing on till the following Saturday so good luck to everyone, remember if you wish to nominate to go in a higher grade for the championships you must do so before you tee off.
Sunday is the 5th away game and will be played at Mount Compass the usual times apply 9.15am putting comp with a 10am tee off time, i have booked 10 buggies look forward to seeing you there.
Ashbourne family fun golf day is just around the corner Sunday 29th October with breaky starting at 8am so come along bring your family and friends and enjoy a great day of friendly golf and company.
see you all Saturday
cheers

Hello everyone , spring has sprung but you wouldn't know it, the rain continues to fall. Well for all those that played Saturday must agree the course was a mud fest, trying to find a spot on the fairway with no casual water was like Big Kev putting for an eagle on a par 5, near impossible. For me personally i saved money by not having to buy lunch because i ate mud for most of my round, i hope the rain stays away long enough for the course to dry so the greens keepers can start mowing again. Obviously some handled the very poor conditions better than others none more than Lucas coming home with a brilliant 42 points to not only win the day but with his 31 point in week one it was enough to win the Bridgestone bag, a great effort in trying conditions. That brings me to the part of Saturdays event, we all know Matty Loan shot the lights with a very nice 40 points in week one to be clear leader and favorite to win the bag. Was the week one leader curse finally going to be killed off ( which would make Tony Bryant very happy ) Matt was very confident as he should be teeing off knowing everyone has to chase him down. Curse, what curse there is no curse was some of the conversations going around before tee off. UNFORTUNATELY for Matty who came in with 26 points was unable to secure enough points to win the bag.................needless to say, beware of being the front runner in a 2 week comp because the curse is still alive and kicking, sorry Tony.
*********News flash ***********
1. AWAY GAME 5 WAS TO BE PLAYED AT THAXTED PARK GOLF COURSE, UNFORTUNATELY THEY DOUBLE BOOKED US IN WHICH MEANS WE ARE UNABLE TO PLAY THERE AS PLANNED
2. NOT ALL IS LOST I HAVE BOOKED MT. COMPASS GOLF COURSE AND TEN BUGGIES FOR THE 15th of OCTOBER 10AM TEE OFF 9.15AM PUTTING COMP
3. SO THE ONLY THING THAT HAS CHANGED IS THE VENUE, THE 5TH AWAY GAME IS BACK ON.
Reminders:
1. put Saturday the 17th of Feb 2018 in your diaries as this is the Presentation / dinner night
2. everyone that has a lots of loot ticket book start selling
3. Sept 23rd is the Sage sponsored day, Paul is bringing out some of the big guns from Sage to try and secure them as a major sponsor for years to come, there will be a B-B-Q after the game so please if you are able to come out and stay for the bbq after it would be very much appreciated.
see you all on Saturday
cheers

Hi everyone, yet again good numbers showing up on the tee block 29 players in total, well done club. It was the September monthly medal round sponsored by Geoff and Jackie, it was a cold but pleasant day for golf, the rain stayed away but the damage was done during the week with heavy relentless rain making it near impossible for the course to dry out and give the green keepers a chance to move the fairways. As always we tee off hoping this will be the day i have a round good enough to win the day, well for one person that hoping turned into a reality and with so many McKennas in the club now you would think law of averages their name would pop up on a regular basis. It was Mark McKennas turn to take home the chocolates on Saturday winning his first ever monthly medal, coming home with a very tidy nett 67, well done Mark, i guess you have the bragging rights among your brother for now.
runner up to Mark on a count back was yours truly also with a nett 67, bloody 18th hole, theirs always one hole that lets you down, never mind i am sure we all had one or two of them in third place very close behind with a nett 68 was Joffa and Sara, well played boys maybe October is your month.
I had the pleasure of playing with Tony Bulmers Bryant, unfortunately Tony didn't have the best of rounds, probably still suffering mild concussion from all his reno work, coming a little undone on the third after a poor tee shot that failed to make the ladies...........JUG was what i heard come out of Robbos mouth, which we all know if you don't make the ladies tee block it is an automatic jug, but wait Tony wasn't quite finished in the coming undone stage, finding his ball sitting down in the long grass made the next shot very hard and with still another 20 meters away from passing the ladies tee, mentally even harder. Lining up with a little beed of sweat appearing Tony took a big swing making contact with the ball.......just, dare i say it.............JUG coming from Robbos mouth as we all saw the ball roll short of the ladies tee once again. as a good golfer out of luck does,Tony soldiered on two jugs down for the rest of the day. Just for the record Tony said to Robbo even before they teed off "every time i play with you Robbo it costs me a jug" unquote, record still in tack.guess i should mention that i to had to buy a jug for not making the ladies tee on the 9th, the only difference was i managed to par the hole and score 4 for 4, go figure.
reminders:
1. Graham Hunt handed out the second "lot of Loot"lottery tickets to all club members that were there on Saturday, please do everything you can to sell your book as it is very important for the club with many major sponsors unable to contribute anymore.
2. lock in Saturday 17th of Feb 2018, it is the clubs presentation night.
3. away game 4 Sunday 15th Oct at Thaxted park 10am tee off 9.15 putting comp, DONT FORGET TO BOOK YOUR BUGGY IF YOU NEED ONE.
4. Ashbourne family fun day Sunday Oct 29th 8am brekky tee off starts at 9am
look forward to seeing all on Saturday
cheers

Hi everyone, what a beautiful Saturday morning it was, the sun was shining the frost was a bit chilly on the skin but all in all it was set up for a good start to the Bridgestone bag trophy two week comp. 29 players came out to try and win this great prize, as each group hit off and started walking up the first it became very evident that the course was still water logged from all the consistent rain over the past few weeks. Hitting off the fairway even after finding a not so muddy spot was still a little tricky, i personally tasted the odd clump of mud after trying to smash my ball down the fairway. Week one of the comp saw Matty the rubber man Loan out for a round after a few weeks out resting his neck and shoulders from injury, well what do they say "beware the injured golfer" in Mattys case it was so true, coming in with a very impressive 40 stableford points matty is the first round leader. Well done Matt on a dream come back, not to put the hodo on you but history tells us all that generally the front runner in a two week comp in our club anyhow has a power failure in week two, i certainly hope that is not the case this time round, break the mould Matty. there are a few contenders still for the bag, Frankie with 37 pts and a hand full of others on 36 pts, i think from 32 pts on have an outside chance of coming home with a wet sail and a hundred km wind behind us :). next week is the Sept monthly medal, followed by the second round of the bridgestone bag comp.
ps. it was great to see Tony Bulmers Bryant out again after a few weeks off renovating his home, looks good, job well done, and i checked, he came in bruise and bump free, must have purchased that armored suit after all.
reminders: Thaxted park away came is on Sunday 15th Oct, 10am tee off , putting comp 9.15am
******* YOU HAVE TO BOOK YOUR OWN BUGGY**********
Presentation night is on Saturday 17th Feb 2018 6.30pm start upstairs as per last year.
will hand out further information as it gets closer.
see you all next Saturday

Hi everyone round 2 of the Mitsubishi trophy was played out on Saturday, a smaller than usual grouping showed up, maybe because the round 1 scores didn't quite meet expectations, Never mind, with Lucas in the drivers seat and and a couple of other players sitting right up close behind it was game on. Conditions weather wise were near perfect, under foot was very boggy though, (hope the course dries out during the week) which made playing some shots very difficult. At the end of round 2 there can only be one winner and coming in with 39 points was Mike "the champ" Taylor, it was a day out for Mike not only did he win the day and three golf balls, he got nearest the pin on the 13th which is another golf ball and sinking is putt for a birdie, also winning the birdie hole, $16 coming your way, but wait there is more, week one Mike scored 35 points and with a combined score of 74 points he is the overall Mitsubishi trophy winner, congratulation Mike on a great day of golf. Runner up to Mike was David "the hipster" Kemp with a combined total of 72 points close but no cigar this time round, commiserations to Lucas i know and so do many other members how hard it can be to back it up the following week after being the pace setter, just ask Tony Bryant, i am sure he feels your pain.
Next Saturday is round one of the Bridgestone bag, another great trophy to win. Round two will be played on the 9th of September
reminders:
1. the next away game is on the 15th of October 10am tee off and 9.15am putting comp at Thaxted park golf course.
2. if you wish ride in a buggy, you must pre book your own as i am unable to do a group booking as normal.
see you all saturday

Hi everyone better late than never with the club news, sorry was a very busy week doing my hair, nails etc you know what it's like :) Well thinking there was not going to be a comp on for the August monthly medal due to the severe weather forecast, 15 players turned up dressed and ready to play regardless of what mother nature was going to dish up, fortunately apart from the very cold conditions it wasn't too bad, so they say i wasn't game enough to go out. Winning the day was Conrad Peters with a hard fought nett 65 well done, with Steve Belcher and Franky Balter runner ups with nett 70.
On Saturday it was the first round of the Mitsubishi Trophy sponsored by Thompson-Geer and at the end of the day it Lucas Mccann jumping into the drivers seat with 37 stableford points well done Lucas, hope you don't choke in the second round like some front runners famously do time after time. very close behind Lucas is Big Kev on 36 points and Mike Taylor on 35 points should be an epic battle next Saturday good luck to all.
On Sunday the 4th away game was played out at the very nice Vines golf club, 20 odd players showed up which was great to see, the away games are in there 9th year now and always been well supported so thank you for making the organising well worth it. The sun was shining, the wind was up and about which made some hole tricky and the greens were slick as but overall it was a pleasure to play on. Winning the day was Steve McKenna with a very impressive 40 points, at least one McKenna knows how to play golf. runner up was Joffa with 39points and in third place was Hunny with 36 points. The winning female on the day was Penny Pearce with 32 points, i was lucky enough to play with Penny and i have to mention that her drives on Sunday were unbelievably straight and long at driving us boys on a number of occasions.
have a great week everyone and i will see you all Saturday
Cheers

Hi all Saturday was the Life members trophy day, the comp was two ball better ball and going by some of the scores the better ball part went missing for some pairs!!! it was a gloomy day dark clouds rolling in strong winds all day, everyone hoping the rain would stay away and thankfully it did while all the groups were still out there. Winning the day with a very tidy nett 64.5 was Hipster Kempy and grumpy old Rowey well done boys conditions were tough on many of the hole, coming in second place on a count back to was Steve McKenna and Paul McKenna also with a very tidy nett 64.5 obviously lots of brotherly love going on. In third place was Kymbo and Joffa with an absolutely fabulous nett 65.0 cheers Joffa you were a great playing partner lots of fun and laughs all the way around with Robbo and Hunny, i hope everyone had a fun time playing a different type of comp. The anchor team with the strongest shoulders holding up the resr with a respectable nett score of 75.5 was Mark McKenna and Lucas.
There has been one player absent from playing the last couple of weeks, our captain Tony "Bulmers" Bryant, he has been busy renovating his home, at this stage the score is House 2 Tony 0 the previous week Tony rocked up with a black eye because some house rubble decided it didn't want to go outside peacefully!! and low and behold last Saturday he rocks up with a cut and bump on his head that would make cone heads jealous, the story goes Tony was removing a support beam that wasn't being supported and bang right on his noggin the beam bounced, the report shows the beam is ok. Tony my advise is before you attempt any further reno's go to costume land and hire a suit of armor.
this Saturday is monthly medal round so good luck to all who haven't won one this season yet and to the ones that have sand bag and give us a go :) :)
Reminders:
The 4th away game is on Sunday 13th at the Vines 10am tee off 9.15am putting comp
cheers
