AGM a good Turn up and a Good Feed/It is Starting to HOT up in the Kitchen at the Summer Cup!
Tuesday, 16 February 2010 10:38
The AGM had an excellent showing this year, a sign that the Golf Club has Strong Membership and looking forward to a stongly contested competition in 2010.
I would like to congratulate all Members that attained a position on the committee and look forward to working and playing golf with all of the committee and all of the members of the club in 2010.
I would like to thank Geof and Jackie for another fine Breakfast and ask, can we have that every week?
It just goes to show that you can't take any small lead in the Summer Cup for granted. Just when you think that you are in a good position to win the Summer Cup, out from left field comes a dark horse and takes the lead by just one point.
Yes, the winner of Saturday's Round 11 of the Summer Cup on a countback from Paul McKenna with 44 points Graham Hunt. (Graham who is not playing in the last round of the Summer Cup) has set the benchmark score of 286 points. Graham is so to speak, finished his campaign for the 09/10 Summer Cup and is know sitting in the clubhouse, and made the statement,
"Catch me if your good enough".
This Week is the last round of the Summer Cup for 2009/10 as there is an Ambrose for the final Week of Februrary. If you are going to make a grab for the Weekend for Two to MacKracken, now is the time to do it.
Four Lads hit off from the Tee on Saturday, and I think for the first time ever all four landed in the same spot about a metre apart. That was about the only glory for the day as we all went our own seperate ways for the rest of the day.(We even have a picture to prove it).
Tom Dougan and Adam Taylor are thankful to Ray Saxby for winning the L Plate in A Grade. Steve Laird wins the Plate by a mile in B Grade and Wazza wins by a couple in C Grade.
As Belair start to hit off later, our Tee Times will be between 8.45am and 9.00am. See you on Saturday!

Mr. Jack Pitcher Shoots a Fine Nett 61 to win the Monthly Medal!
Tuesday, 09 February 2010 09:53
It was a landslide victory to Jack Pitcher shooting a nett 61 with the next closest score Adam Taylor and Bob Peach at a nett 65.
When asked," How did you come into form,"
Jack replied, " It was all due to not Babysitting J Pitcher Junior."
There was action a plenty on the day. Firstly Belair were up to there old tricks again with a three groups on one hole build up on the 5th hole. This hold up in turn held our golf club up once again.  Ron lost his ball on the 6th and called the group behind through, Ron went back to play another from the Tee. Meanwhile Kym and myself were down at the bottom corner just talking about stuff. We both looked at our watches and realised it had been along time and we hadn't seen Ron, it had been so long that we thought the next time we see Ron he would have a full length beard. We were even thinking of puting up Posters on all the Trees of Ron Jaekel, "Have you seen this Man". Finally Ron appeared from the land of the lost and we continued the golf game.
On the 16th another adventure was unfolding. Peter Rowe was having a bit of trouble with the beach. Rob Dale was counting and said it was about 17 shots to get out. Looking at his score I think it was more like 15, and no need to sand the 16th green I think Peter did that on Saturday.
Nearest the Pins were Rob Dale on the 7th and Steve McKenna on the 13th. L Plate Winners were our El PResidenta Mr. Ron Jaekel (even a 39 off the back couldn't save you Ron), Mark Squire for B Grade (up one week down the next, the yoyo effect). It would have been Phil Edwards but he was injured playing on the day. Kevin Rowland for C Grade.
Longest Drives were A Grade Chris Kay, B Grade Wayne Steel and C Grade was Kevin Rowland.
For Everybody else the AGM is on this Saturday, could we show out support for the club and have a good show at the AGM this Saturday at 7.15 am.

North Melbourne Wins !/Everyone Surprised With a Putt for Mckracken
Wednesday, 03 February 2010 08:56
The Kangaroo Boy with a sore Coccyx won the day with 43 points on a countback from Chris Kay (Mr. St Kilda). Mark had a great round shooting around 84 off the stick with a scrub. Golflink was a bit savage to the two boys rippin 0.6 off them both. Chris had a great round shooting 79 off the stick.
All the scores are starting to come in for the Summer Cup, and with only three rounds left, the Summer Cup is starting to hot up. Frankie Balter is leading on 274, One Putt Wonder Steve Mckenna is on 267, the Smiling Assassin Steve Cunninham is on 266 and the young golfing prodigy Riley Marshall is on 261.
The Leader board may change dramatically when eveyone plays their compulsory 7 games to qualify for the Summer Cup.
Everybody was pleasantly surprised on Saturday when all members that turned up on the Saturday were told that there was a putting competition for a golfing trip to MacKracken.
It goes to show that even if you have two Club Champions with 8 Titles between them, if you can't put the ball in the hole in one putt, those titles mean absoloutely zilch.
It was a good finish to a good day. Ther was a bit of slanging going on espeacilally if you got knocked out in the first round. "Mackracken is a crap course anyway who would want a trip for two People for 2 days of golf, 2 nights accomodation and a 3 Course Set Menu in the Clubhouse Bistro nightly anyway".
Well just ask One Putt Wonder Steve Mckenna who took on all comers and blew them all away including Tom Dougan in the Final with just one putt. A very worthy winner. Have a great time Steve, and by the way I'm your best mate arent I!

The Smiling Assassin Steve Cunningham Slaughters the Course
Tuesday, 26 January 2010 10:04
Walking down the 18th with 39 points, and with the 18th to finish, you would be thinking that you would be in with a chance. Not a hope and a bees whisker of coming close. The clean shaven Smiling Assassin Steve Cunningham has shot 92 off the stick 46 Stableford Points. Steve has made the handicapper work overtime again, any score over 45 points Golf Link will ask you, "are you sure the score is correct".
Sitting in the club house with 42 Points you would think that you would come in second or something, maybe on another day but not that day. There were another 3 in front of that score, Kevin Rowland came in with 43 points and Warren Atkins shot 45 points, not enough to dethrone the Smiling Assassin Steve Cunningham.
I see it didn't take long for Tom Dougan to grab lowest off the stick for the year with 39 stableford points, which amounts to 73 off the stick.
Attendace is at high level with between 35 and 38 members playing on Saturday's in the Summer Cup. This amount of attendance is good for the golf club.
The L plate Winners are D Kemp for A grade P Rowe (chicken award Dave) for B Grade and Marcus Heveldt for C Grade.
In closing ask Kevin Rowland about a Fire Truck, Police and a ledge. I would also like to say that when you are driving home and your listening to a bit of your favourite music and you get about half way down Shepherds Hill Road and you realise that you still have your golf shoes on. Then you realise that you have left your golf buggy and clubs at the golf course and that you have to turn around and go and get them.

The Zac Kingston Plays the Rob Roy on Australia Day
Tuesday, 19 January 2010 17:28
I have been fortunate enough to hear Zac play his music. After hearing Zac play I can honestly say that Zac is a great muscian and anybody that attends the Rob Roy on Australia day will not be dissapointed. Let us  (the whole club) get along and support Zac at the Rob Roy on Australia Day.

The Balter Wins/Dave Kemp Cut down to Size and Mark Squire shoots the Breeze
Tuesday, 19 January 2010 16:39
What a turn out for last Saturday. Thirtyfour members turned up to play gollf on Saturday, the 1st Tee was a busy place to be at on Saturday morning around 8.00am.
Frankie Balter has just shown us that there is still some fire in the ol boiler of the Frankie Balter freight train. Frankie shot 45 Stableford points with no scrubs. With 77 off the stick, this means that Frank has the lowest off the stick for 2010.
While Frankie was shootin the lights of the course out Dave Kemp was coming back to all the rest of our size. Yes Dave fell down the mine shaft on the 7th and all that was left of him was his kees up. (Where is there a camera when you want one). He reminds me of the chef in Southpark.
On a day of everything and anything happening Mark Squire couldn't hit the ball on the 12th. Yes Mark was shooting the breeze on the 12th, (was it only one airy or two airies, doesn't really matter one is bad enough).
Looking at the scores there were a few more happy faces than sad ones on Saturday. Klouse had a sad face with 27 points to take the A Grade L Plate out. Phil Edwards has a monopoly on the B Grade L Plate for the last couple of weeks. We will give the L Plate to Alan Harrison, because Mat Semple has just resumed playing and we will give him another weeks grace before he can lay claim to that great trophy, the L Plate.
