It only seems like yesterday when the winter season began and on the weekend the Club Finals were won and lost. As Club Captain I would personally like to congratulate the B grade Champion Zac Kingsotn, and the C Grade Champion Darren Robertson. Commiserations go to the three players that fought hard and lost their match in their respective grade finals, Ray Saxby (A Grade), Bob Peach (B Grade) and Phil Salvemini (C Grade). On that note I would like to talk about the players that competed to make the finals and the players that made the final and who didn't take the glory of their respective titles. The final is only a small part of the process in a bigger picture. The Championship finals start over a two week qualifying period and the top four members go through. Everyone would have asperations of making it through to the final four. To all the members that attended those two weeks that did not make the finals all would have shared disappointment in not reaching the final four and may have said "Oh well there is always next year". To the players that made it through to the top four in each grade and who lost their final, A Grade Frankie Balter, Klaus Ebdrup, B Grade Chris Kay and Peter Rowe, C Grade Gerry Laird and Warren Atkins. The disappointment starts to escalate to another level. After making it through to the top four the "Dream" or the realisation of holding the shield would have become more of a reality so the disappointment of loosing their final becomes greater. To the Members that made it through to the Final and who lost their match again the disappointment escalates and the realisation of not winning sets in. At the end of the day there can only be one winner in each grade. To all those members that competed and lost your turn will come. When Your turn does come, the feeling is sense of great achievement and gratification. If you have lost a final, winning a championship the feeling is so much better. This year the "Glory" goes to Myself (Tony Bryant) Club Champion, Zac Kingston B Grade Champion and Darren Robertson C Grade Champion. |

It's that time of the year again and the Club Championships are upon us again. The first final has been played. Congratulations to all the winners and commiserations to all the players that lost their final. The weather shot to 39/40 degrees on Saturday and I'm sure took its toll on all the players that played that day. For all the final results go to the resullts page on the web site. At this time of year it is Finals time for some but for all the other Members it was a Stableford day. Looking through the scores I see Steve McKenna had a great round of 43 points only to be thwarted by the Phantom Alan Harrison. I call him the Phantom because we haven't seen Alan for about 5 months, and when he comes out Alan shoots 43 points, well done the Phantom I meand Alan. Steve had a magnificent round 43 points with 2 scrubs and an eagle on the 3rd hole. Steve if you had only had the eagle the week before you would have had a share of a dozen golf balls now you will only receive three. Looking at the grade winners I see Ron Jaekel won A Grade with 39 points Steve MacKenna won B Grade with 43 points and Paul Mckenna won C Grade with 27 Points. Ron won A grade, Ron wins a Golf Ball and with 39 Points you would think that you would be safe from the L Plate. That is if you weren't the only A Grader in the field, well done Ron thats a clean sweep of everything in A Grade. It will be my Great pleasure to hand that plate over to you on the Tee on Saturday. Tee off time will be at 8.30am this Saturday. All players envolved in the finals please be there 15 minutes before Tee Off please. Good luck to all those Players in the Finals. |

Graham Hunt had all sorts of challenges thrown at him on Saturday. In the Clubhouse a Nett score of 64 had set the pace of day. David Kemp and Darren Robertson were eagerly awaiting a potential countback of 64 a piece. Ron Marshall the Club Professional, Ron who use to bat on the right side and now bats on the left side shot a 77 off the stick which included an eagle on the 3rd hole and a nett score of 65 couldn't take the day. The day belonged to Graham Hunt, Graham shot a Best off the Stick 88 for C Grade knocking off Darren Robertson's 95 won the Day with a nett 63. Well Done Graham, Graham now goes into the match at the end of the month for the Monthly Medal Play offs. The L Plate in A Grade goes to Steve Belcher because he quit sooner than Klaus Ebdrup, B Grade L Plate winner is Steve Mckenna and the C Grade L Plate Winner is Justin Pitcher. Congratulations to all L Plate Winners. Could all L Plate winners please bring their plates back each week so the club can have formal presentations each week. This Week is the 1st semi Final of the Club Championships for all Grades. Hit off times are at 8.30am all participants are to be their 15 miutes before hit off. In all Grades 1st plays 4th and 2nd plays 3rd. The Participants are as follows, Frankie Balter plays Ray Saxby, Klaus Ebdrup Plays Tony Bryant. They all play in the long Grass at the 1st Tee at Belair Golf Course. Yes that is wright and Zac Kingston rekons I owe a jug of Beer as well because I didn't pass the Yellow Markers. Talk about kickn a man when he's down. Everything was going alright until I Struck the ball. The gallery wasn't showing much sympathy either. They gave to me with both Barrels. And by the way I scrubbed the hole as well. That didn't stop Bob Peach from reaching 7 up on the day (around 80 off the stick). Darren Robertson made a charge for the day but fell Short by 2. Riley Marshall is showing promise with a good score of 3 up coming in second to Darren Robertson. The young man is going to win everything one day. I see Ray Saxby had another good game and took out the L Plate in A Grade. We 'll give James Daley a weeks grace on the L Plate (unless he wants it) so congratulations to Graham Mann on 1 down. And it is a toss up between Fiona Mcintosh and Graham Hunt on the L Plate for C Grade. Hit off is at 8.30 am so everyone could you please get there between 8am and 8.15 am. The Club welcomes the 2 young boys from somewhere in Western Australia Lindsay Jones and James Daley back to the Club. This weeks game is Stroke Monthly Medal. |

About 100 Ducks cover was blown when Paul Mckenna struck his ball off the first tee into the long grass at Belair Golf course on Saturday. 100 ducks were hiding from the wrath of the Greenkeepers shot gun when it was suddenly blown when Paul Mckenna stepped up to the Tee. Paul trying to redeem himself from last weeks drive on the first had another cracking drive into the wire netting on Saturday. The Greenkeepers were happy, (they were out lookn for those 100 and Paul found em for them) and the chineese restaraunts were happy too, another 100 PEKING Ducks for dinner that night (fresh that day). The Snake in the Grass is back with a fine 76 off the stick (44 points) winning the day. Klaus Ebdrup is hitting his straps at the wright time of the year with the club championships saturday week. A great Knock Klaus (PS Klaus don't play like that when I play ya will ya). It is good to see Frankie Balter can have a bad round too taking the L Plate for A Grade, Mark Squire had a fine round of 22 points to take the L Plate for B Grade and Paul Mckenna had a good round of 27 points to win the L Plate for C Grade (even the ducks couldn't help ya Paul). The Mitsubishi Open Day, the most succsessful Open Day yet. It was great to see 11 new faces out on Saturday to our Open Day and all looked like they enjoyed the day. Thankyou to Geof and Jackie for putting on a great BBQ and to Rob Dale for helping Myself (Tony Bryant,) to make the Day the Succsess that it was. Bad luck to Gary Haskins on missing out on the Putter and congratulations to Robbie Gardner on winning the Putter. The putting competition capped off a great afternoon. Thankyou to all the Members that contributed to the day by bringing a friend along, and thankyou to all the friends that came along to the day. |

Never mind who won the day, or who came last in A B C Grade, lets all just focus on that great T shot from Paul Mckenna on the first Tee. In his playing group eveyone had had good shots down the fairway on the first tee. Then up steps Paul Mckenna, a deep breath and then let everything go, launch everything at it leave nothing behind, nothing left to chance. Well I'm sure he thought it went sailing down the middle of the fairway, until he looked down at the ball and saw that not only did he virtually miss the whole ball that he sliced it as well. Yes he just managed to get the faintest tip to the ball and sliced it at the same time moving the ball about 2 inches off the Tee. Yes I said about 2 inches. Meanwhile a few (just about everyone was givin it to Paul). Paul ya know you owe everyone a jug of Beer for not goin past the ladies tee. Paul's day didn't get much better either, his journey up the first was an adventure Mike and Mal Leyland would have been proud of, I figured he was about 15 to the corner. During all this comotion A few boys (Rob, Kym, Zac ) were trying some of the finest Spanish Sherry money could buy. Had a sip myself wasn't bad. Anyway, who won the day? Chris Kay won with a great knock of 80 off the stick, knocking off Bob Peach by 1, well done Chris. Winners of the L plates are Steve Belcher, Super Man for B Grade and Wazza For C Grade. Well done Boys and congratulations to all those that qualified in the club championship qualifiers. |
