Ashbourne What A Day!
Tuesday, 13 October 2009 21:15
Firstly I would like to give my thanks to Warren Atkins, Dave Kemp, Rob Dale, Ron Jaekel, Steve Belcher, Graham Mann, Kym Tolius and Klaus Ebdrup. Without the help and support of these guys, Days like Ashbourne simply just wouldn't happen.
It was simply a fantastic day. I would personally like everyone to turn up 30 minutes later next year so the *$#@!* Club Captain can put out all the signs so that eveyone can follow them to Ashbourne!!
I have also worked out how to win Ashbourne, instead of trying to win it on skill I think I will just drink 1 litre of the finest casked red wine, half a dozen beers and about 5 glasses of port. This is what the winner did, congratulations to the slightly 'inebriated' Kym Tolius with a nett score of 24 stableford points.
On a serious note though, it really was a fabulous day for all those that attended. The day was a balmy 26 degrees, but that didnt help some with their golf. Steve Laird won the infamous NAGGA award and wore the new (still with tags) Jacket that comes with the Nagga. (A new incentive just introduced this year.) Frankly I wouldn't mind winning it myself.
All the people that attended had a great day, the breakfast and bbq were cooked to perfection - thanks Ron and Rob.
The only thing that was dissapointing was the amount of attendance. Ashbourne is a great day and should be supported by all members from the club - it is the only outside venue we visit as a club. It would be great next year to see more people attend - after all, it is your subs that pay for the day!
So come along and experience the beautiful Ashbourne Golf Course and this great annual Club event for yourself.

The Zac Wins Again!
Tuesday, 13 October 2009 20:39
78 off the stick will do it in any grade. Zac Kingston is really starting to put his stamp on the club by putting some really good scores together. Zac qualifies at the top of B grade Qualifying list and quite frankly he would be at the top of the list of A grade as well .
A few players had a day to forget including the winner of the A grade L plate el Presi-den-ta Ron Jaekel, R D had a shocker and so did Gerry Laird all respective winners of there L Plates in their grades.
So now lets talk about Slow Play. On Saturday I played behind a group that fell behind the group in front two and a half holes. This is simply unacceptable. Talking to a playing member of the group and he said," We were four under average players". This is still no reason to play slow.
I (Tony Bryant Club Captain) have addressed this issue a number of times on the Tee. There are certain procedures that can be put into place, for example if you think you have lost a ball off the tee PLAY ANOTHER ONE from the Tee.
If you are lagging behind the group in front of you start walking a bit faster between shots, once two people have finished putting out send them on to the next tee to hit off  FILL YOUR SCORE CARD out AFTER you have hit off. Do not I repeat DO NOT all go over to have a look for a ball if your ball is on the other side of the fairway, play yours first and if necessary if you are required you can go over an help look for the ball.
We all do not have to play like Tiger Woods to play fast. Put it simply it is just Common Sense. The last procedure is that if you as a playing group are holding up the group behind you MUST let the group behind PLAY THROUGH.

ASHBOURNE THIS SUNDAY THE 11TH OF OCTOBER
Wednesday, 07 October 2009 13:48
Ashbourne is on this week on Sunday. This is a great day for the whole family, so lets us all support the day and make Ashbourne a succsess. Ther are maps on how to get there, the club captain (Tony Bryant) will be able to issue one on Saturday if you need one or alternatively take the South Road turn off to Clarendon then to Meadows and travel till you come to a fork in the road and take the Adelaide to Goolwa Road to Ashbourne then just follow the arrows to the Golf Course.
See you there!

Zac Kingston Plays the Rob Roy this Friday
Wednesday, 07 October 2009 13:43
Zac Kingston a well accomplished Muscian playin around Australia in a band and playing at the Wom Adelaide is playing the Rob Roy this Friday night, So get along to the Rob Roy and have a squizz at Zac, Zac would appreciate it.

The Kingston Wins again!
Wednesday, 07 October 2009 13:16
Zac Kingston shot another good round on Saturday to take the Monthly Medal away from a few contenders. Zac shot a net 66. There was the snake in the grass who shot 67, Steve Mckenna 67 and Steve Cunningham 67. All so close but not close enough, Zac was to strong on the day.
Its nice to know that some of the big names in golf have a bad day as well. Picture this VJ Singh is on the 16th and linning up to put his ball 2 feet from the hole. Suddenly the worst thing that you think could happen did happen. Vj shanked his ball Right angles and if someone was standing on the 17th the playing group rekons that he would've killed someone if they were standing there. Thats not the end of it VJ played another ball and then decided to look for his first ball and found it and decided that it was Tree line to Tree line and wanted to take a preferred lie.
Oh it wasn't Vj Singh it was Inder Singh, how could I get that wrong.
Ray Saxby had a fall from grace shooting 72 off the stick one week and then 90 the next, grabbing the L Plate, that  dreded L Plate. I see there is a fear of the winning the L Plate in the club. Ray won the L Plate for A grade Chris Kay wins it for B Grade for walking off (lucky Rob) and good ol Wazza ( who had a shocker) wins it for C Grade.
I see there are a couple of players rules that we need to get confirmed. That is a 10 is a jug of beer, 4 putts is a jugof beer, are ther any others out there that we don't know about.
The club championships start this week, you must have played at least 15 games in a calendar year to qualify, good luck to all those that participate this weekend.

A Wash Out
Thursday, 01 October 2009 06:45
The weather forecast for the Saturday the 26th was a very bleak one indeed. Only a handfall of members turned up to brave the elements. The Alec Memorial Trophy was cancelled and it was decided to put $2 in and winner take all.

72 off the Stick Wins the Day but not enough to Win the Mitsubishi Trophy
Monday, 21 September 2009 17:46
Two Birdies and seven pars on the front nine, gives you a 2 under the card at the turn to home. 39 off the stick coming home gives you 72 off the stick for a total score. No Scrubs in that round will probably give Ray Saxby the lowest off the stick Trophy for 2009. Well done Ray, your in Tom Dougan Territory. Alas it was not enough to win the Mitsubishi Trophy, with Bob Peach shooting 42 points on Saturday, and 39 points the week before to take the trophy from Ray by one point. Congratulations to Bob Peach.
I see Rob Dale knocked off Ron Jaekel on the nearest the pin again, bad luck Ron, maybe you should play last you might get one then.
Klaus and Steve were fighting it out for the wright to the L Plate in A grade and I see Steve got it again. Congratulations to Rob Dale on his 1st L Plate, it was along time coming but I think it will look good on your bag Rob. Not to forget C Grade it is Justin Pitcher who won the L Plate in C grade. Justin tells me his Dad might have won the L Plate on Saturday if he didn't have a sore big Toe that kept J Pitcher Senior from playing.
I think everyone knows Zac Kingston by now, a new member at the club this year. Zac has fitted very well into the culture of the Mitsubishi Golf Club as have all other new members. As you play with all the new members you discover other hidden talents about them. Talking to Zac I learnt that Zac is an accomplished Musician in his own wright. Zac has Toured Australia in a band, played at Womad and plays regular Gigs at the Rob Roy. If anyone is interested Zac is playing at the Rob Roy in Halifax Street on Wednesday the 30th of September and Friday the 9th of October.
Other coming Events are ASHBOURNE Sunday the 11 of October and the MITSUBISHI OPEN DAY on the 24th of October. It would be geat if we could all participate and help on these Days.

St. Kilda Wins!
Wednesday, 16 September 2009 17:41
Chris Kay Mr St. Kilda won the day on Saturday with a fine Score of 40 Points. Chris started badly  with two scrubs and a one point on the first three holes and probably thought his day was over. Chris regrouped and had 17 points on the front nine and (38 of the stick on the back nine) 23 points on the back nine. I think Chris will be hoping for the same performance from his beloveded Saints this Friday angainst the Bulldogs.
The YoYo effect keeps on happening for Klaus Ebdrup and David Kemp up one week down the next, keep on yoyoing boys. Frankie Balter was deternined not to get the L Plate again and struck back with a good 38 Stableford Points.
Congratulations to Klaus Ebdrup, David Kemp, and Steve Laird (Sorry Steve the L Plate doesn't go to anyone under 15, a new rule I just made up) so you get it. Just think no one else won a prize but you did.
Coming up events on the 10th and 17th of October are the club championships. On Sunday the 11th of October is ASHBOURNE FAMILY DAY and on the 24 th of October is the Open Day (Bring a Friend Day). Let us all support the club and attend all these functions.
