Kempie Wins , Buggy On The Loose... And Who Needs A Womans Comp !!!
Wednesday, 03 February 2016 13:10

We had 25 players out last week , playing the last January round of the Allin Towbars Summer Cup. And making a late charge for the title, well not really since Frankie has it in the bag , was Dave ' Whinge and Win ' Kemp. Kempie won the day with a round of 40 points . Well played mate , good stuff.

Grade winners were Steve ' Wet the bed ' Belcher in the early group in A Grade with 38 points. Colin ' Sorry Robbo , No jugs this week  ' Priest in B Grade with 37. Winning C Grade , with a great round of 38 points , was Liz ' Chief Recruitment Officer ' de Koning. With Liz being the only lady playing on the day , there was no seperate comp , so Liz went ahead and won her grade anyway , knocking off DC 5 in a countback. Great stuff Liz.

Plate winners were Jarrod ' Starting to tank for Mildura ' Rowland in A Grade with 29 points. Brent ' The Story Teller ' Ranger takes the plate for B Grade with 26 , and Conrad ' Was my 45 pointer just a dream ? ' Peters holds on to the C Grade plate with a shameful 19 points.... Better hurry up and order the rest of those new clubs buddy !!!

No team players reported this week , although Bulmers apparently tried to tee off from the red markers , before realising his mistake.

The things you see out on a course... waiting at the clubhouse to tee off , we all watched as the early group made their way up the first. As they all appear to walk onto the green , along comes a random golf  buggy across the top of the hill . As it starts its descent into the caravan park , you could make out the bag.... key the Benny Hill music.... and here comes Klaus on the chase down the embankment to collect it. Somehow, I don't think that was planned !!!

Monthly Medal this week boys and girls

Don't forget to put your name on the tee sheet for Mt Compass if you intend to play.... it's looking pretty light on for an away game at the moment ( 28 / 2 / 16 )

Nominations for Committee still being accepted , before the 7.15am  AGM  on 13 / 2 .

Have a good week

Cheers

Robbo

Frankie On Fire In The Heat , Trophy Night ... And Who Took Notes !!!
Tuesday, 08 December 2015 19:22

arriving at the course before 8am , with the temperature already sitting above 30 degrees , it was definately gonna be a hot one out there on Saturday. And the temperature had obviously got to a few blokes before even getting underway. With the call going out for a team photo in black shirts and hats , a few blokes ( not mentioning any names Mr President !! ) decided to wear their older white shirts !!! And to top it off , the secret squirrel group decided to play in the early groups to avoid the heat , but played off the first tee and totally missed the photo shoot... Hope you don't mind being photoshopped in wearing your kilt Kempie and Rowie in your onesie !!!

Onto the golf , and with 3 Comps running on the day , quite a few blokes thought they were in with a shot of wiing something after battling the heat and a poorly written scorecard !! But un the end , it was Frankie ' Cart King ' Balter winning both the December Monthly Medal and the Medal Winners Shield with a great round of nett 65. Frankie also kicked off his Summer Cup defence in style with 41 points. Well played Frankie , but I liked it better when we thought you had a nett 75 !!

Grade winners were Steve ' I lost the shield , no I didn't ' Belcher on a countback from Buzz with a nett 70 in A Grade . Kymbo , wearing a white shirt that looked like it came from the bottom of Billy's dirty washing hamper wins B Grade with a nett 66, and Conrad ' Almost as seedy as Hunny ' Peters wins another C Grade with a nett 71.

Plate winners this week were Jawwod ' Short pant for sure tonight ' Rowland with a nett76 in A Grade. B Grade goes to Paul ' Not really enjoying this ' Johnson with a nett 87. Taking the plate for C Grade , was the C Grade Club Champ Phil ' Don't need to play good every week ' Edwards with a nett 80.

No ladies comp this week , as Liz had to get her hair done , leaving Penny as the only Lady in the Mitsi Ladies Lounge. A fair few blokes may wanna use that excuse as well as Summer heats up Liz !!!!

Plenty of team players apparently on Saturday, but as nothing was recorded , a few blokes get let off without a mention this week !!! Our on the course roving reporter has been told to lift his game , and put the drink down , and take his job a little more seriously !! No , actually I was more interested in getting to ....

TROPHY NIGHT !!!! And what another great night it was. Great stuff Kymbo , plenty of laughs along the way as we followed the season that was , watching Frankie burn a track through the carpet to the presentation dias. Well done to all winners on the night , was great to see everyone relaxed after a long day in the heat. Congrats also Kymbo on your Club Man Award... very deserving winner again this year, as have all previous winners been.

Catch you all on Saturday

Cheers

Winners Decided , Can We Work It Out.... And The Ladies Club On The Up !!!
Wednesday, 02 December 2015 16:38

What a great day for the Finals of the Club Championships to be played on. Starting of a little fresh , the clouds cleared for a cracking day , and the golf was able to match it.

Once again , Tom ' Buzz , Jigsaw , Mr Lego , Knob ... call him what you will '  Dougan proved too good , taking the title of Club Champion over Frankie ' Was worried about mowing the lawn ' Balter 5 & 4 .

In the B Grade battle , and what a battle it was , the game went all the way to the 20th hole before we could seperate the boys. And coming out on top was Matty ' Glad Jess wasn't hungover today, I'm going for a 3peat ! ' Loan over Paul ' I CAN play without launching clubs '  McKenna. Having the pleasure of being Ref for the game , was great to see the boys play and laugh and support each other on the way round. Great game, with no player winning more than 2 holes in a row.... well played guys.

And in C Grade Philthy ' Price check ' Edwards knocked over Dave '  Maybe next year '  Clarke 5 & 4 .

Well played to all, congrats to the winners... and to the other boys, better luck next year.

Thanks again to Patricks Auto Care for the sponsorship.

For the also rans that never were , the winner of the day was Paul ' Back riding with the Phantom ' Hughes. Paul obviously enjoys his golf in the early hours , winning the day with a great round of 43 points. Well played Mr Huges...

Winning A Grade was Pete ' In form a week too late '  Rowe with 37 points. Claiming B Grade was Rob ' So close , yet so far ' Dale with a great round of 42 points, and Conrad ' I shoulda been the champ... bloody cruise boat '  Peters takes C Grade with 34 points on a countback from Super.

Penny ' No Snacks '  Pearce wins the Ladies Comp, as there were 3 playing today , with 35 points.

Plate winners this week were Jarrod ' Getting the handicap out for the ambrose Robbo '  Rowland in A Grade with 26 points, matched by the B Grade plate winner Kenneth ' Funny that , so am I ' Ponting also with 26 points. Sarah ' Unfair boys , I was trying to win ! ' O ' Connor takes the C Grade plate also with 26 points.

Just back to Club Champs... hopefully the new committee will make a call and stick to it as to where the championship groups play off from. Whether first or last groupings , it would be nice to have a decision before the day on the tee block...

The Ladies group looks to have gained another member with Amanda ' Missy Robbo ' Robertson enjoying the Ashborne day enough to risk coming out and playing with you lot... And she enjoyed it , and will be  joining the Club.

Trophy night this week boys and girls... And after a day of stroke in almost 40 degree heat , I'm guessing Nan is guarenteed to be in short pant...and maybe a few joining in this year.

See you all on Saturday

Cheers

Robbo

Finalists Decided , C Graders Give Up .... And How Good Was Ashbourne !!!
Wednesday, 25 November 2015 18:29

With the Match play semi finals on Saturday , wasn't surprising to see the overall numbers down a little , as guys took the advantage to score some brownie points with their partners if they weren't involved . By all accounts , the match play games were all played in the right spirit , and all of a sudden 12 became 6 fighting it out for the gold leaf on the honor boards.

In A Grade , Tommy ' Payback for last year ' Dougan defeated  Steve ' My odds were too short , and I turned up too  early '  Belcher 5 & 4.

Frankie ' Hit  ' em straight ' Balter defeated Pete ' I missed my squirrel brothers ' Rowe 4 & 3 .

In B Grade Matty ' 6 packs are back on boys ' Loan defeated Joff  ' Winning $20 on the tee did me in ' Gould 5 & 3 .

Paul ' No need to launch today ' McKenna defeated Kymbo ' But I putted so well on the cruise ? ' Tolius 5 & 4.

In C Grade Phil ' Caravan Park ' Edwards defeated Graham ' So close ' Mann on the 19th hole... of golf that is. Personally , I reckon' Super would have him covered on the other 19th !!!

And Dave ' You beauty , won one ' Clarke defeated Paul ' Still Huges ' Hughes... don't have the score recorded boys, sorry.

Well done to all players , and  should be a good mix of players next week in the Finals.

For the also rans , Robbie 'Shit day on the punt ' Dale won the day with a score of 39 points . Well played R D , shame about the nags that are still running tho ' .

Bulmers managed to put down his big block vapor long enough to win A Grade with 34 points , Steve ' It could've been me ' McKenna wins B Grade with 35 points , and no other C Graders bothered to show !!

Plate winners were Dave ' Gotta go back to calling it a practice round ' Kemp in A Grade with 26, and in B Grade ' You've gotta be shitting me , it starts with a 3 !! ' Robbo takes it in a 2 horse race with 32 points.

The birdie hole also went off this week , with Manny and DC - 5 sharing the pot .

And then rolled on Sunday , and what a great day it was . With the collapse of the Mad Hatters night , the committee made a decision to throw extra funds at the family day,  and hope like hell that the members would support it. And thankfully you blokes didn't disappoint us. What a great turn out , with a BBQ breakky with champagne, port, coffee , tea and beers... the day got off to a great start.

Then followed nine holes of golf that were more enjoyable for some than others, followed by another BBQ for lunch and presentations. Thanks to Penny and Liz for their contributions..not expected , but very much appreciated by all. Very difficult to single out blokes when it was a combined effort by all committee members , but as it is Robs' sponsored day , would just like to say a big thanks Patron for all your work on the day mate.

For those keeping track , Paulie McK won the day but missed out on his prize as he had to take a flight back to the north side of town to make it before dark !!! Well done Paulie, great to meet the clan mate. On the downside , Chris Kay won one of  the best looking trophys' we have , taking out the NAGA and stopping me from going back to back.

Again guys , on behalf of the committee ,  thanks for supporting the day and making it enjoyable for everyone. It will be back for sure next year , planning is already underway... so if you have any ideas on what else we could do to improve the day , don't be shy to raise it with a committee person... We need honest feedback to build on this great benchmark.

VERY IMPORTANT ... Could everyone please make sure they bring in their $45 a head presentation dinner money this week, so Big Kev has the money to pay for the dinner. The dinner is Saturday week , so the more we pay now , saves the headache of chasing money on the day.

Good luck to finalists

Cheers Guys n Gals

Phil Grabs The Prize, Klaus Bails Out... And Robbo Falls Victim To His Own Voodoo !!!
Thursday, 19 November 2015 20:20

With Chris Kay offering up an unknown mystery prize for his trophy, was good to see 24 players on Saturday willing to take it off his hands. With some high scores out there, this weeks winner on a countback , was Phil ' Any flybuys ' Edwards doing enough on the back 9 to beat Brent ' It was not a choke ' Ranger , with a great round of 40 points. Well played boys, shame about your 18th hole Brent, but congrats to Phil.

Grade winners were Frankie ' Just making sure I've won the 3 diamond ' Balter with 37 in A Grade. Brent wins B Grade with his 40 points , and Super ' I gave you news Robbo, but you were too pissed to remember it !! ' Mann wins C Grade with 38 points.

Plate winners were Pete ' Penthouse to shithouse ' Rowe in A Grade with 27 points, Matty ' Bach spin was so yesterday... I got duck spin on the 3rd !! ' Loan for his walk off to nurse a very hungover wife. Conrad ' Not my day ' Peters takes the C Grade plate with 29 points.

As there was only one lady out , Fi ' I'm takin'up vapors ' McIntosh wins the Ladies comp and the L plate !!

Poor ol' Klaus... Coming up against the Matchplay speed bump Buzz , the great Dane went an' smashed 2 fingers into smithereens in a mid week golf comp courtesy of Phil Salvo, knocking him out of the playoffs. To rub salt into the wound, it was on day 1 of a 4 day golf trip , making Klaus flag bitch for the following  three days. But for Belch , that beer money he gave Salvo before they left was money well spent , as he now steps into the Semi Finals.

No team players to report , but must make mention of the fact that I fell victim to the par 16th  / straight to the park on the  17th with a beautiful slice that never looked like missing !! Worse thing was, I even went a ball change to try and avoid it !!! Oh well , at least Billy wasn't there to rub it in....

Good luck to all the players involved in the Semis.

Don't forget Ashbourne on Sunday with an 8am arrival time for breakky.

Cheers boys n girls

Rowie Claims The Last Spot , Bulmers Takes One To The Guts.... And Powerball Is On !!
Wednesday, 11 November 2015 15:57

Good numbers on the weekend , with 22 players turning up on Saturday ..... Unfortunately none of them were the tee - masters for the day. So team Robbie / Robbo stepped in to keep the motley crew of rabid golfers in check, and kept the game moving and Matty hydrated.

Winning the final monthly medal for the season, and now sponsored by Geoff and Jackie , was Pete ' Look at me go ' Rowe with a nett 67 . Well played Pete , see you in the December medal winners playoff.

A Grade winners were Klaus ' Where's Mattys' mute button ? ' Ebdrup with a nett 69. Joff ' I've got my Whitney back ' Gould wins B grade with a nett 70 , and Dave ' Lord of the shack ' Clarke takes out C grade with a nett 71.

Plate winners this week were Mike ' I'll get you back Robbo for leaving a fully charged Matty in my group ' Taylor in A Grade with a nett 77. B Grade plate goes to Pete ' Wobbly boots ' O ' Connor for his walk off on the 10th after being hit by the port hammer on a hot day. Liz ' When exactly is this ladies comp gonna start then ! ' de Koning in C Grade takes a plate with a nett 85.

Team players this week were Brent ' Ford ' Ranger for a 4 putt on the 5th. Not to be out done, everyones' favourite little port monster Matty Loan followed in the next group , also 4 putting the 5th. But the best effort of the day goes to our Club Captain, Tony  ' Vapor Viking ' Bryant for his effort on the 5th tee block. Going for his usual tick , tick  ... boom drive , Bulmers launched it straight into the ladies tee markers. Unfortunately for the big marn , the ball then came racing back just as fast to smack Captain Chaos fair in the guts... Calls of jug could be heard from the group behind , and the sad realisation of a 2 stroke penalty for touching the ball in play left Bulmers not sure wether to laugh , cry or launch his club in anger.

Powerball tickets have been bought, so hopefully we can all retire soon !! Note to Rowland Sisters, you owe the bank of Robbo $15 each now.

Chris Kay 380 trophy this week guys, hope to see you there

Along with some tee masters maybe ?

Cheers

Robbo

An Overdue Round Up, Hughsie Wins A Bag... And Kymbo Wins The Basket Press !!!
Friday, 06 November 2015 16:17

Well after a few weeks without updates again, a fair bit has happened at Belair since we last went to press. Club Champ qualifiers have been decided, with the play offs listed below

Club Champ

" Jigsaw "  Dougan  vs  " Green Fingers "  Ebdrup and "Away Game Specialist " Rowe  vs  " Mower Man "  Balter

B Grade

" Where's The Mute Button "  Loan  vs  " I Need A Driver All The Time " Gould  and  " No Bag, Not An Away Game Specialist " Tolius  vs " Black Hawk " McKenna

C Grade

" Checkout Chick " Edwards  vs  " Cabin Boy " Mann  and  " I've Come To Clean Zee Pool  "  Clarke  vs  " Can I Still Ride With The Phantom ? " Hughes.

Well done you blokes, all the best for the semi finals.

Mike Taylors golf bag also went off during the media ban , with Paul " Hot Streak " Hughes finding form at the right time to beat Kymbo on a countback to claim it.

The away games also have wrapped up, with Rowie this time to wipe Kymbos face in the dirt as he chokes on two comps in two weeks. Well done Rowie on becoming the Away Game Specialist of 2015.... your name will be etched along some very top rank golfers on that shield .... and mine as well !!!

Last week saw the introduction of a new perpetual trophy in honor of Jacqui Rowland, and what a cracking trophy to win. And despite going down in his recent major trophy battles, I think everyone was very happy to see Kymbo become the first winner. Kymbo won the day with a score of 41 points. Well played Kymbo... Enjoy the cruise Buddy.

A Grade went to Klaus with 36 points , B Grade went to " Permission to land " Paulie McK with 35 , and DC - 5 wins C Grade with a great score of 40 points.

L Platers were Champ in a Grade with 30 points , Paul ' Not really finding this funny " Johnson in B Grade with 23 points and Liz claims C Grade with 23 points.

Congrats to Liz on her par and to Penny for her 2 pars out there on Saturday...

Birdie hole was won by Penny on the 10th... your shout !!

Team players were Robbo 4 putting the 17th, Mr Johnson falling short of the Ladies on the 7th, as did Sarah O'Connor on the 4th.

Bon Voyage to Big Kev , Kymbo and Hunny as they set sail on a 14 day detox cruise around the South Pacific ... look forward to the stories from that one when they return.

See you guys on Saturday

Cheers

Club Championships Underway, Kempie Changes His Prize...And A Recap Of The Last Few Weeks !!
Tuesday, 13 October 2015 16:45

With the start of the Club Championship qualifying rounds played in good weather, it was no surprise to see 24 players out there on Saturday. As usual with the first two rounds, Kempie is our sponsor and this year has thrown up a Mercedes Golf bag as the major prize for the best stableford score after the 2 rounds.... not sure if he just needs a new golf bag, or is happy with his driver.... either way, that is the prize this year. And fresh out of the blocks last week was Pete ' Don't Call Me Grumpy - Chu ' Rowe with a great score of 41 points. Although leading the race for the bag , Pete only qualified third for the Club Championships.... smart move Pete, more chance of surviving the first play - off if you don't come up against the 'Jig Saw Lord ' Dougan. Well played Buddy.

And so the top 5 of blokes in the hunt for the bag, but by no means the only chances are Pete ( 41 ) , Klaus ( 39 ) , Phil ( 37 ) , Frankie ( 37 ) and Joff and Kempie tied on 36...Well, maybe they are the only chances really...... Good luck boys, will be tough to knock over the HGC !!!

As For Club Championship spots... The top five at this stage for each grade are as follows - All scores are gross ie. Off the stick ;

Club Champion

Tommy ' Don't forget the first rule of The Jig Saw Club ' Dougan  ( 75 ) Klaus ' The Don Burke of Hawthorndene ' Ebdrup ( 80 ) Pete ' Got this ' Rowie ( 80 )  Dave ' Maybe I should play in shorts to put them off ' Kemp ( 85 ) and Frankie 'Can't believe I couldn't handbrake into B Grade ' Balter with 87.

B Grade

Joff ' C'mon you blokes ' Gould ( 89 ) Matty ' Killer on the Dartboard ' Loan ( 94 ) Paul ' Black Hawk Down ' McKenna ( 94 )  'Maybe I will play next week ' Kymbo ( 97 ) and Brent ' Ford ' Ranger with  99.

C Grade

Conrad ' How good is this Club business ' Peters ( 96 ) Phil ' Still got it ' Edwards ( 97 ) DC ' Look at me go ' 5 ( 102 )   Super ' Cabin boy ' Mann ( 102 ) and The Nullabor Nymph himself, Big Kev Rowland with 110.

Plate winners and  no chancers this week were Mike ' Mr Norwood ' Taylor in A Grade with 93. His trusty sidekick Rob 'El NAGA ' Dale takes B Grade with 105 and Paul 'Maybe not this year ' Hughes claims it for C Grade with 113.

Just a reminder boys, anyone not available to play the Semi or the final should mark this on their card this week, so that  tee masters can get the players right.

Just a quick welcome back to all the tourists... Klaus, Manny and the Rowland Sisters. Good to have you all back on board.

Congrats to Belcher on winning the Bridgestone bag a few weeks ago, and to Kenneth 'The Phantom ' Ponting and his sidekick Paul ' Huge ' Hughes on their win in the life members 2 ball Comp.

Good luck to everyone with a shot at something this weekend boys

Cheers

Belch In The Box Seat , Kymbo Claims The Cash ... And Who Says Bottle O's Won't Deliver !!!
Wednesday, 16 September 2015 17:24

With temperatures in the mid - high 20's , was good to see the numbers slightly improve to 21 players for the first week of the Bridgestone Golf Bag Comp, sponsored by Rob Hayden. Winning the week was ' Waikerie ' Steve Belcher , with a field smashing 38 points. Well played Steve, you are definately in prime position , with only a small handful of players in any position to challenge this week.... So don't choke !!!

Winning A Grade this week in a 3 way countback from Rowie and the Champ, was Frankie ' I like playing as a couple ' Balter. Frankie and the boys all shot 33 points, to have some small hope this week. B Grade goes to ' Cash Is King ' Kymbo with a very good 36 points to put the heat on Belch. C Grade goes to Conrad ' I've almost won enough balls to cover my membership , without hurting my handicap !! ' Peters, with 27 points. Anyone not listed above will need a miracle to claim the bag... luckily mine is still in good nick ....

Plate winners this week were Tony ' Playing In Champs Cart Put Me Under Pressure ' Bryant with a Jaekel saving round of 23 points. B Grade goes to Robb.... oh, wait... no it doesn't !!! This week , ' The  Belcher Family Sparkie '  Hunny wins it with 20 points, and 'Penny beat me... for real '  DC - 5 claims it again for C Grade, also with 20 points.

Unaware of any team players, as the last group made it in just before the Sunday Mail was delivered...

Congrats Kymbo, you biatch , on cleaning up the birdie hole money with a 4 / 4 on the 5th last week... somewhere around $80 from memory. Definately your shout on Saturday for Ports buddy !!

Thanks to Bulmers and Sarah for dropping off a few coldies to us on the 15th hole... Who says you can't get good service these days...

Have a good week boys and girls

See yas on Saturday

Cheers
